Man Charged In Shorewood ID Theft Still Not in Will County
Shorewood's Police Department said their cohorts in Memphis are aware of the felony arrest warrant for Steven Simmerman, 56.

SHOREWOOD, IL - It's now been more than a month since Shorewood's Police Department filed felony charges against Steven C. Simmerman. He faces two counts of identity theft at the Will County Courthouse. A Will County judge set a high bond for the defendant, $250,000. But you won't find a mugshot for Simmerman on file at the Will County Sheriff's Department. In fact, the 56-year-old suspected identity thief has yet to appear before a judge in connection with the pair of Class 1 felony crimes.
As it stands, Simmerman isn't in custody anywhere. There's an active Will County felony warrant out for his arrest. And it's been that way since July 21,court records reflect. You see, Simmerman lives in Memphis, Tennessee, which is roughly 520 miles from Shorewood, population 16,950.
On Tuesday, Shorewood police officials told Patch that Memphis police are very much aware of the pending charges against Simmerman, who court documents show, resides in the 6500 block of Lake Valley Drive in Memphis, a city of more than 650,000.

According to the Will County criminal complaint, Simmerman is accused of committing identity theft against a Shorewood woman back on April 11. According to court documents, Simmerman "knowingly used personal identification information" from a Lincoln Investment account "to fraudulently obtain money."
Simmerman is accused of stealing between $10,000 and $100,000, court documents reflect. Simmerman is white, 5-foot-7, 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, his arrest warrant states.
