Neuro Conference for Nurses
Silver Cross will host a free event for nurses interested in increasing their knowledge of stroke on Nov. 3
The Silver Cross Neuroscience Institute will host a free Neuro Conference on Monday, Nov. 3 for nurses who are interested in increasing their knowledge of the management and treatment of acute stroke. The free event will be held from 11:20 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and again at 3:20 to 6:30 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.
Participants will learn about the SAH—the sudden change in mental status, NIH stroke scale, things to look for in unresponsive intubated and aphasic patients, sudden deterioration of stroke scale >4, blood pressure management in hemorrhagic stroke, hydrocephalus and EVD management, and early diagnosis and treatment options for vasospasm.
The conference will be led by Dr. Harish Shownkeen, Medical Director of the Neuro Interventional Surgery Program at Silver Cross Hospital. Course faculty includes Dr. Kathleen McCahill, Medical Director of the Silver Cross Stroke Program; Dr. Richard Burgess, Interventional Neuro Radiologist at Silver Cross Hospital and Cadence Health; Abbigayle Doerr, Advanced Practice Nurse at Silver Cross Hospital and Cadence Health; Kathryn Lubben, Advanced Practice Nurse at Silver Cross Hospital and Cadence Health; Cheri Doyle and Darlene Bergman, Clinical Nurse Educators at Silver Cross Hospital; and Penny Eriks, RN, Silver Cross Hospital Stroke Coordinator.
