Never too old to Learn a New Trick
Seniors can help others while staying busy and learning new things.

"You stay young as long as you can learn; acquire new habits, and suffer contradiction." -- Marie Von Ebner Eschenbach
Seniors living in Shorewood have many opportunities for learning something new and acquiring new habits. The Troy Township Community Center located at 25448 Seil Road in Shorewood has various activities for seniors to do just that. One group is highlighted in this column.
On Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Joliet Quilters Guild meets to undertake various quilting projects, the end products of which they sometimes raffle off to raise money for non-profit organizations.

When I recently retired from my job as office manager for the , the group surprised me with a beautiful quilt signed by each quilter. Twice a year the group has work days to make Quilts of Valor for wounded soldiers, Christmas stockings for Operation Santa, or shawls with pockets for children going through cancer treatments.
These talented ladies not only make quilts but come together for fun and friendship. If you are interested in joining the group, call 815-468-6793.
