New Law Creates Political Sign Confusion: Will County Clerk

Signs for next April's elections are already being seen around Joliet, Voots said.

Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots on Monday said a new law could be creating some confusion among voters.

Municipalities can no longer regulate when campaign signs can be placed on residential properties, Voots said. The law essentially allows property owners to put up outdoor campaign signs at any time prior to an election.

That means that signs for candidates for the April 7, 2015 consolidated election are already popping up in Joliet, and possibly other areas of Will County, Voots said.

“To eliminate confusion for the Nov. 4 general election, please refer to your voter information guide, which was sent to every household of registered voters in Will County,” Voots said in a press release Monday. “The guide includes a sample ballot showing all candidates and referenda for which they are eligible to vote.”
