Barbara, who worked in the Radiology Department of Ingalls Hospital for 40 years, passes away at age 72.

Barbara R. McDermott
Barbara R. McDermott, age 72, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Barbara was born in Chicago on January 19, 1951, to the late Erwin and Ruth Krueger. She was a graduate of Fenger High School, class of 1969. Barbara was trained in Radiology and worked for over 40 years in the Radiology Department at Ingalls Hospital in Harvey. On September 25, 1971, Barbara married Patrick McDermott, and the two most recently celebrated 52 years of marriage. Barbara was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan, and she had become a serious golf enthusiast in her retirement. However, her favorite activity was watching her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Patrick L. McDermott; her daughters, April (Robert) Stehlik, Cristy (Nathan) Hefner, and Jennifer (Jason) Zurek; and her grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as GooGoo, Aidan & Addison Stehlik, Callie & Coye Hefner, and McKenna & Finnigan Zurek. She is preceded by her parents; and her brother, Erwin Krueger, Jr.
Visitation for Barbara McDermott will be Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 3-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd., Joliet. Funeral services will be Friday morning, January 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, then processing to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood for final interment.
