Obituary: Sister Odelia Kloc, OSF

Sister Odelia was a woman of great strength and integrity with a missionary heart.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory​.

Sister Odelia (Anton Marie) Kloc, OSF, a Sister of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, entered eternal life from St. Patrick’s Residence, Naperville, Illinois, on August 27, 2026. Sister Odelia was a woman of great strength and integrity with a missionary heart. She will be remembered for her work in Brazil and her dedicated ministry as a music therapist.

Sister Odelia attended St. Pascal Parish School, Chicago, Illinois, and graduated (1960) from Resurrection High School, Chicago, Illinois, before earning her BA (1965) in biology from the College of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois. She then earned her MA (2000) in transpersonal counseling psychology with a concentration in music therapy from Naropa University, Boulder, Colorado.

Sister Odelia entered the congregation from St. Pascal Parish, Chicago, Illinois, and made her final vows as a Sister of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate on August 12, 1968. She began teaching (1965-1973) in the primary grades at St. Mary School in Plainfield, Illinois, and St. Ludmilla School, Chicago, Illinois. In July of 1974 Sister Odelia became part of the Congregation’s foundation in Brazil, South America, where she served for twenty-three years. There she held a variety of positions: teacher, school administrator, pastoral minister, formatter for many of our Brazilian sisters, regional counselor and later, regional coordinator for the community in Brazil. Upon her return to the United States (1997) Sister Odelia obtained her certification as a music therapist (2000) and ministered as Life Enrichment Coordinator/ music therapist at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois, until her retirement in 2022. She was a kind-hearted, generous and dedicated music therapist. Her presence, prayer, and skill in music therapy were the gifts she continued to share with others as she transitioned to Story Point, Romeoville, Illinois, and St. Patrick’s Residence, Naperville, Illinois.

Born on August 5, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Sister Odelia was the daughter of the late Louis S. and Estelle (Slowik) Kloc. Her only brother, Thomas Kloc, and her sister-in-law Linda Kresal Kloc, Princeton, Illinois, preceded her in death. She is survived by her nieces Amanda Fulkerson, Princeton, Illinois, and Melissa Castro, Princeton, Illinois, devoted cousins, friends, and the many elderly residents to whom she brought hope and joy.

Visitation for Sister Odelia Kloc will be held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville, Illinois, on Friday, September 11, 2026, followed by the Mass for Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. A Sharing of Memories will take place after Mass in the Chapel. Interment will be private at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville, Illinois.
