Offerman: Local Farm Boy Back on the Big Screen

Minooka's Nick Offerman will be appearing in two films this summer, one that debuts on Friday.

Nick Offerman, local farm boy, character actor and star of NBC-TV’s Parks & Recreation, will be back on the big screen soon in “The Kings of Summer” and “We’re the Millers,” according to a report in the Joliet Herald-News.

“The Kings of Summer” opens Friday and “We’re the Millers” will be in theaters in August, according to the report. Offerman, 42, stars in both films. He said “The Kings of Summer” is about breaking away and declaring a little bit of adulthood in the Herald-News report.

“My friends and I had a pretty kick(butt), two-story treehouse down by the creek,” Offerman stated in the report in response to the question, “Did you ever do that growing up outside of Joliet?”

“It was nothing compared to the excellent construction of the house these boys build in the woods in this move,” he stated in the report. “I do however remember sleeping out in the middle of the woods in tents when I was 12. We smoked cigars and would sneak a pint of gin from our Dad’s cabinet. Quite promptly, we would vomit purple, but we still thought it was cool.”

Offerman describes his upbringing on a Minooka farm as “Norman Rockwellian” in the report.
