Opossum Rescue Caught On Camera At Hammel Woods
Forest preserve police sprang into action and rescued the caught-up critter.
SHOREWOOD, IL — A critter found itself in a tight spot at the Hammel Woods Dog park recently but was saved by the intervention of Forest Preserve District of Will County police officer Mike Reilly. On Wednesday, the district shared a video of Reilly coming to the rescue of an opossum that found itself stuck in a hole in some type of metal structure at the preserve.
Members of the public alerted forest preserve staff to the captured critter, and Reilly sprang into action, getting the animal freed in a matter of moments.
Once the critter was free, Reilly carried it to safety and released it. Though the animal appeared frozen in fear once it was out in the open, forest preserve officials reassured viewers, "Don't worry, it's not dead. It's just playing possum."
