Our Shorewood is Better Than Your Shorewood -- And So is Our Football Team!

Shorewood Mayor Rick Chapman is picking the Bears this Sunday and backing up his bet with rib dinners from Portillo's.

Mayor Rick Chapman has thrown down the gauntlet -- now let's see if the town father of that other Shorewood up in Wisconsin, whoever he is, has the guts to pick it up.

Chapman is going with the Bears to knock off the Packers Sunday, and he is so confident in his pick that he is backing it up by betting two rib dinners from on the Chicago team.

"I don't think he's got a Portillo's up there," Chapman said, and he seems to be right about that, as the popular chain has numerous restaurants across Illinois, a couple in California, and even one in Indiana, but does not have a single establishment in all of Wisconsin.

In the event the Packers somehow slip out of town with a win, Chapman said he'll have the dinners packed in ice and mailed off to the mayor of the Wisconsin burg.

"I'll have to get his address," Chapman said, adding, "I think he's going to need mine more."

But that's only if the mayor of the Shorewood, WI, who according to its village Website is named Guy Johnson, is man enough to take Chapman's bet. And it's not clear what Johnson has to put on the table anyway, as his Shorewood is rumored to be a barren land stricken by plagues of frogs and locusts, and definitely not nearly as nice as the Shorewood we have here.

Just like their football team is not as good as our football team.

While the geniuses in Las Vegas have for some reason made the Packers three-point favorites, Chapman is going with the Bears anyway. And he doesn't even want your stinking three points. And on top of that, he's not even really a Bears fan.

"It's my second team," said the Buffalo native and Bills supporter, who moved to Shorewood in 1972.

But for this week, the Bears are Chapman's first team, and he can wait till next year to see what quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (not to be mistaken for this ) can get out of the once-glorious Bills.

After Chapman wins this bet, and oh, he will win, he can give a call to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to make his next wager, as the Jets are as close to a sure thing as you can find to take down the Steelers.

"The Jets are unbelievable," Chapman said. "They're walking the walk."

They certainly are. Now let's see if that big shot New York mayor wants to take on Shorewood in a few weeks.
