Passenger Ejected, Driver Charged With DUI In Shorewood Crash
The vehicle was trying to get on Interstate 55 when the impaired motorist lost control, police said.

SHOREWOOD, IL - The Illinois State Police continues to investigate a one-vehicle crash that ejected a passenger. The wreck happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Route 59 ramp that leads onto southbound Interstate 55. The driver, Christopher S. Johnson, 21, of Elwood, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated DUI, the Illinois State Police said. The identity of his passenger is not being released at this time, police said.
The preliminary investigation determined that Johnson lost control of his vehicle. It veered off the Route 59 ramp and rolled, ejecting his passenger, who was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The Will County Adult Detention Center shows Johnson, who lived in Elwood's 23900 block of South Keith Allen, was booked into the jail around 5 a.m. His bond was set at $20,000. He must post $2,000 bail to remain free while his criminal case is pending.

Johnson was charged with two felony counts of aggravated DUI involving serious bodily injury, a misdemeanor DUI and two traffic citations, failing to reduce speed and improper traffic lane usage.
