Raising Cane's To Tear Down Route 59 Bank

The Raising Cane's under construction in Joliet at the former Diamand's Family Restaurant isn't the only Raising Cane's coming to the area.

SHOREWOOD, IL — There is a Raising Cane's double-drive thru already under construction in Joliet near the Louis Joliet Mall, but that won't be the only one opening in the Joliet area

Shorewood village officials have also approved redevelopment plans that would allow a Raising Cane's to locate along Route 59 next to the Chili's restaurant.

Raising Cane's intends to tear down the former PNC Bank property and put a double-drive thru restaurant here in Shorewood. Construction would begin in March, and the Raising Cane's is tentatively set to open on Aug. 23, 2022.

According to Shorewood officials, the Raising Cane's restaurant would be 3,600 square feet and include a masonry corral at the back of the building. Raising Cane's would have about 55 employees in Shorewood with an average of eight employees per shift.

The new restaurant plans to stay open from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Raising Cane’s considers itself a quick serve restaurant, founded in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by Todd Graves, according to documents provided to Shorewood by the company.

"The restaurant has one love, which is chicken, as evident by the minimal menu that includes: chicken fingers, fries, coleslaw and Texas toast," the documents state. "Raising Cane’s is not a chain restaurant, but is part of the community, starting with the name of the city being part of the painted mural on the side of the building," The restaurant not only employs people from the area but gives back to the community in several ways. By promoting education, feeding the hungry, pet welfare, local community involvement and more."
