Sartori Shines For JCA

Senior Rachelle Sartori posted a pair of first-place finishes as the Joliet Catholic Academy girls track team opened the season at Oswego East.

As far as firsts go, Joliet Catholic Academy’s Rachelle Sartori ranked at the top of the list.

Sartori, a senior, placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.92 and also took first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:38.6 as the Angels’ girls track team opened the season at the Oswego East Invitational.

Junior Francesca Sikorski contributed JCA’s other first-place finish, winning the 400 with a time of 1:02.85. Both Sartori and Sikorski were key cogs for the Angels’ state-qualifying cross country team.

Likewise, junior Erin Kennedy placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:36.30. Paige Wogen, a freshman, posted impressive times in the 55 dash with a 7.75 and in the 200 with a 29.15.

“Well, for the first meet, we looked pretty good,” said JCA girls track coach Eric McCants, who is assisted by Mindy Izzo. “There is still room for improvement, but it looks like we are headed in the right direction. Our frosh-soph team did better than we expected and we are happy for that.”

BOYS TRACK: Senior football recruit Josh Falk continues to dominate for the Hilltoppers’ boys track team, recording a pair of first-place finishes at the Plainfield South Invitational.

Falk, a defensive end who has signed for Northwest Missouri State, went 52.7 in the 400 and 23.8 in the 200 to lead JCA on Saturday morning. He also ended up taking fifth in the high jump with a 5-2.

Junior Grayson Horton turned in a 54.3 in the 400, good for third place. JCA boys track coach Cory McDermott also pointed out the performance of freshman Connor McNulty in the mile.

“Connor didn’t place, but we think he’s going to break the 5-minute mile for us,” McDermott said. “We’re thinking that’s a strong possibility in the next couple of meets. Also, we’re looking for Falk to get under 50 in the 400 very soon as well, and I thought Grayson improved a ton from his last meet.
