With Seil Road Bridge Closed, Shorewood Police Reveal Best Detour Route To Use

The Seil Road Bridge is being destroyed and taken down. Austin Tyler Construction has been hired to bring Shorewood a new two-lane bridge.

The official detour route for motorists to use instead of the Seil Road Bridge is the southwest frontage road to Mound Road to River Road.

SHOREWOOD, IL — Joliet area motorists will never, ever, be able to drive over the Seil Road Bridge in Shorewood. As of this week, the Seil Road Bridge has been permanently closed. There is no way for motorists to cross the DuPage River near the Seil Road Park anymore.

While the Seil Road Bridge is being taken out by Austin Tyler Construction, a new two-lane bridge will be built in its place on adjacent land. However, the new bridge for Shorewood won't be finished until June of 2027.

As a result, the Shorewood Police Department, on Tuesday, issued the following traffic bulletin advising area motorists that road closures are now in place at: Seil Road and Raven Road, Seil Road and States Lane. There is also no vehicle access past Canterbury Drive and River Bluff and no access past Colonade Road.
