Seniors' Senior Prom at the Timbers of Shorewood

The Timbers of Shorewood's Senior Prom has been an annual event for 12 consecutive years. The Del Bergeson Orchestra will provide the music

All senior citizens are invited to the 12th annual Seniors’ Senior Prom titled, “Enchanted Seniors,” from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 19, at The Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Rd., Shorewood. The event is free and open to the public.

The Timbers of Shorewood’s Seniors’ Senior Prom has been an annual event for 12 consecutive years. That’s a lot of kings and queens through the years. That’s a lot of foxtrots and waltzes and most of all - a lot of happy dancers.

The Timbers’ dining room will be transformed to fit this year’s theme – Enchanted Seniors.

The Del Bergeson Orchestra will provide the music of the Big Band era. This 10-piece band has been tempting couples onto the dance floor at 35-40 gigs a year, the Timbers being a favorite. A resident of Joliet, Orchestra Director Del Bergeson plays trombone and sings standards made famous by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis Jr.

The event features hors d’oeuvres, dancing, raffles and all the prom trimmings. A special moment will be the crowning of the king and queen of the prom.

In typical prom fashion, chaperones will be on hand making sure the night goes smoothly – only these chaperones are local teenagers. Several teens from Joliet Catholic Academy and members Joliet West will serve as escorts and dance partners.

“It’s a wonderful sight to see so many people enjoying themselves,” said Faith Varga, Timbers’ executive director. “Del plans an interesting mix of music to dance to – foxtrots, waltzes, cha-chas and all the rest.”

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments as well as a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

The public is invited, and admission is free. For more information call Linda McCluskey at 815-609-0669 or visit http://www.timbersofshorewood.com.
