Woman Crashed Into Shorewood's Walgreens, 52-Year-Old Motorist From Cook County Arrested: Police

Shorewood's Walgreens on River Road did not allow any customers inside the retail store on Sunday because of the crash.

SHOREWOOD, IL — The Shorewood Police Department made one arrest in connection with Saturday night's wreck that damaged the Walgreens store at the corner of Route 52 and River Road. A 52-year-old woman from Timber Ridge Court in Cicero was taken away in handcuffs, and charged with driving on a suspended license and criminal property damage. The arrest of Christy Ragland took place at 7:56 p.m.

According to the Shorewood police, officers were dispatched to Walgreens for the property damage crash. At the scene, the officers saw moderate damage to the stone siding on the west side of the building. The officers met with Ragland, who stated she turned into a parking spot and her brakes failed as she attempted to park, the police report showed.

The vehicle drove over the parking barrier and struck the building. Officers asked for Ragland’s driver’s license, and she didn’t possess one, her arrest report indicated.

Officers checked the Mobile Data Computer and found that Ragland’s license had been suspended. Officers placed Ragland under arrest for driving while suspended. Citations were issued and she was released with court information, the agency advised Joliet Patch.
