Shorewood Against the Snow

Shorewood's workers had their work cut out for them Friday and heading into the weekend.

Soon after the snow started falling on Friday morning, village workers were already taking steps to keep the streets clear.

"The troops are out in full force," Mayor Rick Chapman said Friday afternoon, by which time inches had already accumulated across the Chicago area.

"They're going to be working all through the night," Chapman said.

And the snow was expected to fall all through the night and possibly Saturday as well, with a 40 percent chance of it continuing to come down before noon, according to the National Weather Service.

By Sunday, the National Weather service is calling for the meteorological tide to turn, with the temperatures reaching a high of 40. But Shorewood's roads will be pristine long before that time, and no thanks to the coming warm weather either.

"By (Saturday) morning, Shorewood should be looking really good," Chapman said.

And the efforts by the public works crew make the mayor look pretty good too.

"It's my best time of year," he said. "I get congratulated and I'm not even out there moving snow."
