Shorewood Approves Appropriations Ordinance
Thirty-three million in appropriations allows room for Village to cover unforeseen expenses.

Some government functions can be likened to dotting I's and crossing T's.
Take the Village of Shorewood's recent action to approve to its annual appropriations ordinance. The Village board approved an appropriation of about $33 million, according to a Sun-Times News Group report.
The figure includes a 25-percent bump over actual break-even operating budget costs of $26 million, according to the report, a routine procedure that allows for unforeseen expenses to be covered.
"No expenditure can be entered into unless the expenditure has been anticipated and provided for in the appropriations ordinance," stated finance director Sue Berg in the Sun-Times News Group report.
The State of Illinois requires villages to approve an appropriations ordinance that outlines what the village will spend during a given fiscal year, according to the report.
