Shorewood Man, 25, Died In June From Fentanyl Intoxication: Coroner
The body of Christopher Shanine was discovered in a Shorewood subdivision on June 23.

SHOREWOOD, IL - Last month's mysterious death of a 25-year-old Shorewood resident has been ruled an accidental drug overdose. Christopher Shanine's cause of death has been classified by the Will County Coroner's Office as being Fentanyl Intoxication. The manner of death has been ruled to be an accident, the coroner's office informed Shorewood Patch.
Back on June 23, shortly before 5 a.m., Shanine's body was found near his bicycle along a Shorewood subdivision parkway in the 800 block of Diamond Head Drive West. So far, the Shorewood Police Department has not made any arrests in connection with Shanine's death.
During an interview with Patch about three weeks ago to discuss the death investigation status, Deputy Police Chief Jason Barten said, "we're developing some leads from stuff at the scene. It's still very active."

People who knew Shanine have told Patch that his body was found about a mile from where he lived on Benjamin Drive.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse classifies fentanyl as being "a powerful synthetic opioid analgesic that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent." According to this website, fentanyl's effects include euphoria, drowsiness, nausea, confusion, constipation, sedation, tolerance, addiction, respiratory depression and arrest, unconsciousness, coma, and death. Fentanyl has been in the news a lot across Illinois.

On Friday, Patch reported how federal law enforcement officials have charged more than a dozen Chicago and west suburban residents in a massive heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine ring that lasted for two years. During the raid, the FBI seized more than 52 kilograms of cocaine, 13 kilograms of fentanyl, 45 kilograms of heroin, and pound of methamphetamines.
According to previous Patch articles, Shanine had been arrested multiple times around Will County since 2015, often on felony crimes of retail theft or DUI. Booking information at the Will County Sheriff's Department indicates that Shorewood police arrested Shanine on charges of retail theft in May.
