Shorewood Man Charged With Cocaine, Pot Offenses In Joliet

A Joliet Police Department investigation led to the arrest of Daniel Farrett Jr.

JOLIET, IL - The Will County State's Attorney's Office has charged a 47-year-old Shorewood resident with armed violence and possessing a substantial amount of cocaine and marijuana. Additionally, Daniel J. Farrett Jr. is also the subject of a civil forfeiture that seeks to take possession of $1,005 cash, a Nissan forklift, a 20-foot equipment trailer, a 2018 Cargo Mate Blazer and a 2017 Ford F250 truck, court records show.

The criminal charges against Farrett came as a result of a criminal investigation at the Joliet Police Department. Farrett was taken away in handcuffs last Friday, May 10.

Charge 1: Armed violence, a Class X felony. The "defendant while armed with a dangerous weapon, a Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard 280 ... knowingly and unlawfully possessed a substance containing cocaine, a controlled substance," the complaint reads.

Charge 2: Unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class X felony.

"Said defendant knowingly and unlawfully possessed with the intent to deliver 100 grams or more but less than 400 grams of a substance containing cocaine."

Charge 3: Unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class X felony.

"Said defendant knowingly and unlawfully possessed with intent to deliver more than 5,000 grams of any substance containing cannabis."

Charge 4: Unlawful possession of cannabis, a Class 1 felony.

"Said defendant knowingly and unlawfully possessed more than 5,000 grams of any substance containing cannabis, other than as authorized in the Illinois Cannabis Control Act."

Charge 5: Unlawful possession of cannabis, a Class 3 felony.

"Said defendant knowingly and unlawfully possessed more than 500 grams but less than 2,000 grams of any substance containing cannabis ..."

Charge 6: Unlawful use of a weapon, Class A misdemeanor.

"Said defendant knowingly possessed in any vehicle a pistol ... a Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard at a time when he was not on his land, or in his own abode, legal dwelling or fixed place of business, or on the land or in the legal dwelling of another person as an invitee with that person's permission."

Farrett spent five days in the Will County Jail until his cousin from Chicago posted 10 percent of his $500,000 bail on Tuesday, court records show.

The Shorewood defendant lives in the 600 block of Crystal Drive.

His next court appearance on the criminal case is set for June 6 in Courtroom 405.
