It was another whirlwind week in Shorewood — the Midwest's center for adventure!
As always, it was a wild week in and around Shorewood, and the Shorewood Patch was here to tell you all about it.
The last seven days had a bit of everything, with amazing stories tugging at our heartstrings and tickling our funny bones.
We had drama on the basketball court and in the courtroom, and a school board trying to figure out if they're going to get stuck feeding students for free.

mondayEx-con scores courtroom victory, goes back to prison
A Shorewood man jailed the day after he got out of prison for living with his mother — who unwittingly had an order of protection against him — when prosecutors dropped the charge he was facing. But Shaun Israel, 25, still had to return to prison due to the bureaucracy of the Department of Corrections. Israel remains incarcerated at Stateville Correctional Center.

West washes out
The Joliet West girls basketball held Crete-Monee without a field goal for a stretch of 9 minutes, 22 seconds in the first half to take 30-14 lead at halftime, but in the second half of Monday’s Class 4A contest in the Crete-Monee Regional. The Warriors closed the third quarter on a 12-0 run but didn’t rally past the Tigers until Destiny Harris’ put-back on a missed free throw with 1:26 gave the hosts a 47-45 lead. The Tigers would never recover.
WednesdayDrew Peterson case slouches off to Ottawa
The Drew Peterson murder case — which has been in court since May 2009 — made its way to Ottawa where the about whether hearsay evidence can be used against the disgraced former cop and accused wife-killer. Peterson couldn't make it to the hearing, which was about as lively a one as the appellate court has likely ever had, because he is still locked up in the Will County jail and can't get out unless he comes up with $2 million cash.
There's no such thing as a free lunch, at least not if the Troy school board gets its way.
For the second month in a row, the Troy school board for the district's students, and how parents might lie so their kids can get some food without paying for it.
fridaySteger man claims cop ordered him to drive off even though he was drunk
Down the road from Shorewood in Joliet, Cecil Conner of Steger was for a fatal drunk driving wreck. Conner was behind the wheel of a car that slammed into a tree. His former girlfriend's 5-year-old son, Michael Langford, was killed in the crash. The girlfriend, Kathie LaFond, was originally driving but was arrested for not having a valid license. Conner was a passenger in the car and said he feared the Chicago Heights cop who arrested LaFond would arrest him too if he did not drive off with Michael in the back seat. He took the stand in his own defense and testified that the cop gave him a "direct order" to drive.
Son of disgraced former cop Drew Peterson now also a disgraced former cop
The Oak Brook Fire and Police Commission , who was a patrol officer with that town's force. The commissioners determined that Stephen Peterson obstructed law enforcement officials when he hid three of his father's guns before the state police got around to executing a search warrant at Drew Peterson's Bolingbrook home. The board also ruled that Stephen Peterson was guilty of failing to disclose that his father gave him nearly a quarter million dollars in the midst of a police investigation. Stephen Peterson's attorney, Tamara Cummings, said she will appeal the commission's ruling.
