SHOREWOOD, IL — The Shorewood Seniors will host a peaceful community demonstration, “No Kings 3,” on Saturday, March 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the 1100 block of North River Road. Residents of Shorewood and neighboring communities are invited to gather in support of constitutional rights, due process, and democratic principles.

Organizers say they are deeply concerned about what they view as cruel and unaccountable enforcement actions carried out by federal immigration authorities in cities across the United States. The group states that its purpose is to stand for the rule of law, for due process, and for the dignity of life and liberty guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution.

“Due process is paramount to the identity and integrity of America,” said organizer Dorothy Brumbaugh. “Without due process, we don’t have a democratic republic but despotic authoritarian rule. I plan to show our neighbors that I value their life and liberty, no matter how or when they came here.”

The demonstration will emphasize peaceful assembly and community solidarity. Participants plan to express both their anger at what they see as federal government abuses and their care and concern for those they believe are being targeted.

“We will be making a joyful noise on No Kings 3 Day!” said co-organizer Barbara McIntosh. “This demonstration will be a family-friendly celebration of democracy. We hope our community will come join our patriotic kazoo band with kids, grandparents, and everyone in between. We’ll even be handing out kazoos.”

Organizers encourage attendees to bring signs, friends, and instruments as they exercise their First Amendment right to assemble peaceably.

Journalist Lorraine Swanson of Patch has produced the following story highlighting all of the No Kings Rally events that are planned for this weekend throughout Illinois. Peaceful demonstrations will take place in Joliet, Minooka and Romeoville.
