Shorewood Sex Offender Moves To Rockdale After Guilty Plea

SHOREWOOD, IL — After spending nine-and-a-half months last year in the Will County Jail, registered Will County sex offender Jacob Schendel is now serving his sentence of two years of sex-offender specific probation in Rockdale after pleading guilty in late October to traveling to meet a minor in Shorewood.

At the time of his felony in May 2021, Schendel lived in the McHenry County village of Cary. The Illinois Sex Offender registry now lists Schendel as residing in Rockdale at 1500 Brandon Road, which is adjacent to the Brandon Road quarries.

He is now one of five registered sex offenders living in Rockdale, population, but he is the only one of the five who is not deemed to be a sexual predator, according to the Illinois State Police sex offender registry.

As part of Schendel's plea bargain, the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow dismissed a solicitation to meet a child charge against the 25-year-old Schendel, who drove to the Target store off Route 59 in Shorewood on May 3, 2021, under the belief he would meet up with a 15-year-old girl for sex.

That investigation was handled by the Shorewood Police Department.

According to Schendel's sentence imposed by Will County Judge Daniel Rippy:

  • Schendel was issued $2,794 in court fines, fees and costs.
  • He was ordered to serve 288 days in custody, with day to day credit to apply.
  • Because Schendel already served 288 days in the Will County Jail from Jan. 11, 2022 until Oct. 26, he got released from custody the day after sentencing.
  • Schendel must not access or use a computer with Internet capability prior to court approval.
  • He must comply with the probation conditions for sex offenders including submitting to sexually transmissible disease testing, a test for HIV and submit blood samples to the court for transmission to the Illinois State Police for DNA genetic marking.
  • He shall not initiate, respond to, establish or maintain contact over the phone, email, texting or any other electronic mechanism with any person who may reasonably be a child under the age of 18.
  • Schendel shall not go to or loiter near school yards, parks, playgrounds, arcades or other places primarily used by children under the age of 18, unless approved in advance and in writing by the probation officer.
  • He cannot accept employment at any place primarily frequented or used by children under the age of 18, unless approved in advance and in writing by the probation officer.
  • Schendel must submit to random unannounced home searches and random unannounced computer examinations.
  • The Rockdale resident cannot participate in any holiday events involving children under the age of 18 such as distributing candy to children at Halloween, wearing a Santa Claus costume on or preceding Christmas, being employed as a department store Santa Claus or wearing an Easter Bunny costume on or preceding Easter.
  • He shall remain at one place of residence and not move from that residence without permission of a court probation officer.

Schendel's case is continued until Oct. 23, 2024 for termination of his probation.
