Shorewood Woman Fails To Register As Sex Offender: Complaint

SHOREWOOD, IL - A Shorewood woman who is classified on the state of Illinois offender registry as a sexual predator has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a Class 3 felony. The Shorewood Police Department filed a criminal complaint against Kathleen F. Murphy on Thursday. Detective Paul Hulbert stated in court documents that Murphy failed to comply with the Sex Offender Registration Act as the law applied to her on or about September 6.

"She knowingly failed to report in person to the law enforcement agency with whom she last registered, the Shorewood Police Department, that she changed her address ... " the Shorewood police detective notified the Will County Circuit Court. Murphy had maintained that she was living on Oak Drive, according to Shorewood police officials. Police said that Murphy listed the address as her permanent residence without the permission of the people living there.

According to the Illinois sex offender website, Murphy is 5-foot-7 and weighs 180 pounds. She turned 57 in May. Murphy was 49 years old at the time of her crime, and her victim was 14 years old. Her sex crime occurred in Cook County, according to the offender registry.

At the moment, the state's website lists Murphy as residing in Shorewood, but notes her address is unknown at this time. The caption underneath the photo of Murphy states, "Offender has fled the address given on registration records without notification."

Court documents indicate Will County Judge David Carlson issued a warrant for Murphy's arrest, setting bond at $50,000, meaning she'll have to post $5,000 cash to get out of jail once she's arrested. A check of Will County's jail logs on Monday evening indicates Murphy has not been booked into the jail since felony charges were filed against her last week.
