Shorewood's Call to Action!

Trustee Stevan Brockman is asking for residents to serve on the village's Citizens' Advisory Committee.

Shorewood's Citizens' Advisory Committee is a vital conduit for residents to find out what's afoot in the town, but 17 of the village's subdivisions are unrepresented on the panel.

"Probably half the population is not being represented right now," said village Trustee Stevan Brockman, who chairs the Citizens' Advisory Committee.

Brockman explained that the committee is a "point of contact" for residents to raise concerns directly to village government

"Also, it is a good place for dissemination of news that could affect your area or other parts of the village as a whole," Brockman said.

The Citizens' Advisory Committee began as a neighborhood watch group in 1990. Former Mayor Bertha Hofer made it into a village committee the following year.

What was once a 10-member panel has now tripled in size, but nearly half Shorewood's subdivisions have no representative on the committee.

The committee meets at Village Hall for about an hour and a half on the fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting begins with a report on police activity in the village, an address by a guest speaker, and then reports from each subdivision.

Brockman asked residents to stop by and take a look at what it's all about.

"I always advise that you can come to one meeting to see if you like it or not," he said.
