Shorewood's Home Depot Thief Faces New Charges: Police
Norman Chappelle has been locked away from society in the Will County Jail since Aug. 7. Now, more felony charges have been filed.

SHOREWOOD, IL — Norman Chappelle, a 44-year-old Chicago man living in the Will County Jail since his Aug. 7 arrest by Shorewood police, is now facing 10 new felony charges in connection with allegations he stole merchandise from Shorewood's Home Depot on Route 59.
According to the Dec. 15 criminal complaint from Shorewood Police Detective Kevin Frazier, Chappelle is accused of five counts of burglarizing the Home Depot on May 7, May 30, June 18, June 21 and July 9. Chappelle is also charged with five counts of committing retail theft.
Will County Judge Art Smigielski set bail at $500,000 for Chappelle, who lives in the 800 block of South Stony Island Avenue in Chicago.

On Dec. 15, Patch published an article about Chappelle headlined, "$3,007 Seizure For Shorewood Home Depot Thief: Forfeiture."
At the time of his Aug. 7 arrest, "The (Home Depot) Loss Prevention officer had reported at least 12 previous retail thefts involving Chappelle to Detective Frazier of the Shorewood Police Department, (who) was presently conducting an ongoing investigation into those thefts," the forfeiture complaint noted.
