Slammers Sweep Way Into Championship

The Slammers will take on either the River City Rascals or the Southern Illinois Miners in the coming series.

Hector Pellot doubled twice and Kyle Maunus drove in two runs as the Slammers defeated the Lake Erie Crushers by a final score of 5-2 Saturday night.

With the win the Slammers clinch a spot in the Frontier League Championship series which begins Wednesday night. They will face either the River City Rascals or the Southern Illinois Miners.

The Slammers got two runs in the first and never trailed in the game. Pellot doubled in Josh Flores in the inning.

They tacked on two more in the fifth on RBI singles by Maunus and Brandon Peters.

Jeremy Tietze got the win for the Slammers as he had an no-hitter going through the first five innings. Lake Erie picked up a hit and a run in the sixth. But the Slammers responded with a run in the seventh after Pellot smacked his second double. He scored on a RBI grounder by Maunus.

That was more than enough as after Lake Erie got a run in the seventh Brian Smith tossed a scoreless eighth and Joliet native Ryan Quigley nailed down yet another save in the ninth.
