Support Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

Brave the Icy Waters of Loon Lake with State Rep. Mark Batinick

Giving back to the community is part of our American heritage and, more importantly, one way to make a lasting difference in the lives of others. Local charitable events are a great way to get involved and support a worthy cause of your choice.

This Sunday, March 8, I am participating in the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Illinois at Loon Lake in Yorkville; one of eight plunges across the state to raise money for Special Olympics, an organization whose mission is to “provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”

Entrants at our Polar Plunge will be braving the icy waters of Loon Lake on Sunday to support this important cause. The water will be cold, but the warmth this fundraising effort will bring to the many children and adults who benefit from Special Olympics programs make it more than worth it.

If you would like to donate to our plunge, please visit the Special Olympics Illinois website at www.soill.org and click on the Calendar of Events page; then select the “Yorkville Polar Plunge” on March 8. As I write this, 532 participants have signed up and a total of $66,710 has been raised. We can far exceed that by Sunday with your help. The plunge starts at 1pm with check-in time starting at 11am. Registration is at the Kendall County Fairgrounds located at 10826 Illinois Route 71 in Yorkville.

Thank you to everyone who has donated and volunteered to support Special Olympics. I am looking forward to participating this weekend and hope to see many of you there!
