Troy student holds school supplies drive for Eagle Scout project

James Goodwin "filled the bus" with donated items for Troy 30-C's 7 schools

Troy Middle School student James Goodwin this summer filled a bus with school supplies as part of his Eagle Scout project for local Boy Scout Troop 256.

With his troop assisting, Goodwin collected and organized the donations and delivered them to each of Troy Community School District 30-C’s seven schools.

The approximate 3,000 items included 403 notebooks, 420 folders, 558 packs of pencils, 487 glue sticks and 300 packs of crayons. The project also included a three-tiered cart for each school, where the supplies were placed.

To give him an idea of the need for the school supplies, Goodwin researched the number of students who qualified for free and reduced lunches in the district and also conferenced with Marc Solodky, Troy Coordinator of Student and Family Services.

“I don't want kids worrying about what supplies they might not have,” James said in an email to Troy’s principals.
