Walsh to Undergo Radiation After Cancer Surgery

Will County executive says he's feeling great, will begin further treatment later this month.

Four months after undergoing surgery to remove his prostate after a cancer diagnosis, Will County Executive Larry Walsh on Friday announced that he will begin radiation treatment later this month.

“We knew radiation therapy was as possibility following surgery and although I feel great, my doctor recommends this course of action to be sure I am ultimately cancer-free,” said Walsh. The treatment will last eight weeks, he said.

On Sept. 25, Walsh had surgery to remove his prostate after his doctors detected cancerous cells. At that time, the physicians were confident all the malignant tissue was removed and only a short series of radiation therapy would be necessary, according to Walsh’s office.
