Will Co. Health Dept. Receives $426K in Funding
The money will temporarily help in stopping layoffs and continuing some programs.

The Will County Board has approved $426,000 in funding for the Will County Health Department.
While not enough to cover the department’s $2.1 million budget shortfall, the money will temporarily help stop “a significant number of layoffs and program cuts” according to the Chicago Tribune.

However, some layoffs will still happen, as the Family Case Management program will not be reinstated.
Adult Mental Health services, the Crisis Response Program and the Juvenile Justice program will be maintained through the end of the fiscal year, according to the report.

“Instead of giving the department an additional $426,000, the county board instead will allow it one more year to repay the $3 million it borrowed from the county in March. That loan was to be repaid when tax revenues arrived in June,” according to the Tribune.
