Will County Leaders Recognized for Saving Energy

Will County Executive Larry Walsh said savings are the result of projects completed with a grant from the American Resource Recovery Act.

Will County is saving energy.

And the U.S. Department of Energy has noticed.

The U.S. Department of Energy recognized Will County for its leadership in the first year of the Better Buildings Challenge in a news release issued by county executive Larry Walsh.

The Better Buildings Challenge is a national leadership initiative that calls on chief executive officers, university presidents and state and local leaders to reduce their portfolio-wide energy use by 20 percent by 2020 and then to share the results of their energy reduction strategies, according to the news release.

Will County exceeded its first year's goal by 11.5 percent, according to the release issued by Walsh. He said this was achieved through a combination of energy efficiency projects which were completed with a grant from the American Resource Recovery Act.

"I am proud of Will County's success in the Better Buildings Challenge," Walsh stated in the news release. "I applaud our Land Use Department Director Curt Paddock, Dean Olson, Kathy Pecora and our County Maintenance Director Mike Miglorini for leading this initiative to help reduce operating costs for the County."
