11-Year-Old Sexually Assaulted By Skokie Teacher: Police

A 32-year-old teacher at a Skokie religious school was ordered held without bail Tuesday.

SKOKIE, IL — A Skokie teacher accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old student at the religious school where he worked was ordered held without bond Tuesday. The investigation began Friday when police first learned of an allegation of sexual assault.

Mohammedimran Mulla, 32, of the 3900 block of Oakton Street, was arrested Saturday. Prosecutors later approved felony counts of predatory sexual assault of a child, attempted predatory sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Police said Mulla is a teacher at the Noor Learning Center in Skokie and lives in the same block as the school.

It was not immediately clear when or where the reported abuse took place. Police declined to answer questions about when the incident occurred or how long Mulla may have had access to children at the school.

Noor Learning Center officials have not responded to requests for more information about Mulla's role there.

The Noor Learning Center, or Madrasah Ibrahimiyaah, teaches students to memorize the Quran and aims to "prepare a generation of righteous and remarkable boys and girls who will become leaders," according to its website.

"Spreading guidance through the principles, our [religion] eliminates darkness replacing it with light," it said.

Mulla is due back in court in Skokie for a bond review hearing on July 30.

"The investigation is still ongoing, and we are asking witnesses, anyone with knowledge regarding the incident or [who has] information on similar incidents to come forward," Sgt. Denise Franklin said.
