SKOKIE, IL — Skokie police have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 78-year-old man in late 2024.
The incident took place on Oct. 27, 2024, just before 4 p.m., when a vehicle traveling northbound on Crawford Avenue struck Skokie resident Alfred Slivo as he was crossing the street, according to the police. Silvo was pronounced dead shortly after due to injuries sustained from the crash.
The driver who hit him fled the scene.
Skokie investigators teamed up with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, Major Crash Assistance Team to investigate the incident.
On Monday, authorities arrested Umeshbhai Parikh, the suspected driver, at the police station. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the case and approved one felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving fatal injury.
