SKOKIE, IL — Skokie village trustees on Oct. 19 adopted a resolution affirming the village's partnership with the Cook County United Against Hate initiative.
The resolution also reasserts Skokie's commitment to opposing hate, discrimination and intolerance while fostering a welcoming and inclusive community.
The action places Skokie within a countywide effort focused on hate prevention and public education. According to the village, residents can sign the United Against Hate pledge and review educational resources intended to help prevent hate and discrimination.
The village also directed residents to its Hate Crimes and Bias-Based Incidents web page for information about reporting. The page explains what constitutes a hate crime or a bias-based incident, how to report incidents, and how the village responds when reports are made.
Reporting hate crimes and bias-based incidents helps keep the community safe, the village said. The village also said speaking up can help prevent future harm and reinforce that hate has no place in Skokie.
The board's vote adds a local statement of support to a broader county campaign.
