Caregiver Corner - Makes a Big Difference Locally!

The demand for caregivers in the Chicago & Skokie is expected to double in the next 30 years. Caregiving can be a part time job that can make a big difference in someone's life.

Caregiving is a growing field.  In the next 35 years the senior population is expected to double, and the need for caregivers is expected to grow with it.

There are many different kinds of caregivers.  Some are informal, such as family or friends that provide help to a loved one.  Others are paid caregivers who provide help on a professional basis.

To be a caregiver one must be trustworthy, reliable, dependable, and extremely patient. Prior job experience isn't always mandatory, but it does help.  However, the most important things employers look for in potential caregivers is a warm friendly personality and a desire to help others.  To hear one of our caregivers talk about her experience working as a caregiver click here.

Caregiving is a unique job.  While clients vary – some want full time help, and some want part time help (as little as a few hours per week).  The most typical tasks include housekeeping, meal preparation, escort to appointments & errands, medication reminding, and companionship.  For some clients, just a small amount of caregiving can make all the difference in the world.  Many people only require a few hours a week to help them continue living at home.

There are many ways to find work as a caregiver.  This can include word of mouth, checking online job boards, and inquiring with local vocational services.
