Chicago Man Guilty of Trying to Kidnap Girl in Skokie

A judge found the 36-year-old guilty of the January incident this week.

A Chicago man who had been accused of trying to kidnap a 13-year-old girl in Skokie earlier this year has been found guilty.

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Lauren Eddin found Gabino Torres, 36 guilty of child abduction Tuesday, according to the Skokie Review.

According to authorities, Torres stopped his SUV in a parking lot in the 4800 block of Golf Road on January 20 and asked the girl, who was walking from Old Orchard Junior High to Niles North High School, for directions.

“Torres tried to pull the girl into his vehicle, but she was able to retrieve a string of padlocks from her backpack and strike Torres in the face, authorities said. Torres then fled, but the victim was able to give authorities a detailed description of the man and his vehicle, including the fact that her attacker was missing two fingers.”
