Katrina Sifferd, professor of philosophy at Elmhurst
College, speaks January 19th at 10:30 a.m. at the Ethical Humanist Society of
Chicago, 7574 North Lincoln Avenue in Skokie. Her topic is, “Consciousness
and Criminal Responsibility.” Sifferd will discuss how the field of
cognitive neuroscience probes into the extent to which intent is tied into the
commission of a crime. She will throw light on the role of the
subconscious in our assessing criminal culpability.
Following the
program, please join us for a Newcomer's Chat (the 3rd Sunday of each
month) in the library. Those new to the Society are invited to join
representatives from our Membership Committee to learn what the Society is all
about in a relaxed setting.
Please join us for Coffee Hour after the talk. All are welcome to our Sunday
programs, which are free and open to the public, and childcare is available.
