The new panels on the courthouse and its parking garage will generate more than 1,700 megawatt-hours of electricity each year, according to Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle's office. That accounts for half of the courthouse's annual power usage, and is equivalent to the electricity used by 150 homes over the course of a year.

The county completed a similar solar panel project at the Markham Courthouse in August 2025.
