Police Called To Skokie School Over Shooting Threat Discussion

Skokie detectives determined there was never a direct threat to the school.

SKOKIE, IL — One student at East Prairie School has been referred to juvenile court in connection with a discussion of school shooting threats Tuesday, police said.

Officials from the District 73 school called Skokie police at 11:30 a.m. and notified them that students had been talking about recent threats at schools in the area.

After interviewing several students, Skokie police said there was never a direct threat to the school.

The investigation by detectives determined that a disorderly conduct offense had been committed and a 13-year-old boy has been referred to juvenile court in connection with it, Skokie police said Tuesday.

Disorderly conduct, as defined by Illinois law, is committed when someone "transmits or causes to be transmitted" any threat to a school.

School officials, district administrators and police worked closely together in the investigation, according to a release from the Skokie Police Department.
