CPS Teacher Charged With Sexual Abuse Of 14-Year-Old Skokie Girl

Prosecutors accused the girl's former teacher of sexual assault, solicitation of child pornography, grooming and other offenses.

CHICAGO — A judge ordered a Chicago Public Schools teacher held without bail Tuesday on charges he sexually abused a 14-year-old Skokie girl.

Jason P. Gil, 42, of the 3000 block of North Kostner Avenue, was the girl's former teacher when she attended school in Chicago, police said. Gil is listed as a part-time bilingual teacher at Thomas J. Waters Elementary School in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood in CPS employee records.

Prosecutors approved six felony counts in connection with what police described as an "inappropriate relationship." Gil was charged with criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, solicitation and possession of child pornography, grooming, solicitation to meet a child and distribution of harmful materials, police said.

Gil was reported missing Sunday, the same day Skokie police said he was arrested. In an community alert, Chicago police said he left his home around 1 p.m. Saturday in a vehicle that was later found parked nearby in the early morning hours Sunday. The alert was canceled Monday, as charges were filed.

Skokie police said they learned of the allegations Saturday and arrested Gil at an unspecified location Sunday. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the charges Monday and police announced the arrest Tuesday, after Gil's bond hearing was complete.

Police did not provide any information regarding when or where the alleged offenses occurred or address the circumstances behind the missing person's report. Gil is due back in court Wednesday for a bond review hearing.

A Chicago Public Schools spokesperson said in a statement Gil was immediately suspended from his teaching position "upon learning of deeply disturbing allegations" and the district would not hesitate to fire him "should these allegations be substantiated." The CPS Office of the Inspector General has also launched an investigation, it said.

Gil had only had three rules for his class, according to an undated description on a class website. One of them: "Be proud of yourself in thoughts and actions."
