Days of the Dead Indy 2019

Last weekend, I had a blast at Days of the Dead, a horror-related convention.

I spent last weekend enjoying three days of fun at Days of the Dead Indianapolis. The horror-related convention debuted there in 2011 and has run yearly shows there, while expanding to Chicago, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Louisville and Dallas.

Actors, William Shatner, Kathleen Turner and Sherilyn Fenn were the headliners. They were joined by may other actors, including Felissa Rose, Brandon Crane, Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and more. While not technically on the celebrity lineup, actress Michelle Morris (Portia Chelleynn) was on hand for panels and Q&A's.

Wrestling legends Sgt. Slaughter, Kurt Angle and Dustin Runnels. All three were very popular with the fans. Sarge happily applied his patented “Cobra Clutch” to anyone who requested it. He looked great and regaled us with tales of some of his great battles.

Dustin wore his Goldust facepaint on Saturday, much to the delight of his fans. Lots of the talk centered on his recent classic match against his brother Cody, but there was plenty of talks about his father and so many of Dustin's career highlights.

Kurt was a bit quieter, but totally excellent with his fans. He talked about his Olympic performance (“with a broken 'freaking' neck”). It was my first time meeting the multi-time pro champ and Olympic hero and it was a cool experience.

The convention moved to the Westin downtown. DotD had outgrown the previous home hotel, which is a testament to how great this con has become. The Westin provided more room, which made interaction and meandering around the area much easier and enjoyable.

The new location also allowed for a new selection of restaurants within walking distance. We ate at Primanti Bros., a sports bar native to Pittsburgh. They are famous for stacking the french fries and the cole slaw on the sandwiches. However they stack it, it was delicious.

Back to the con, another great part of it is seeing all of my con friends. Over the years, friendships start and develop. Even if we don't see each other outsid of these cons, we always have a great time catching up and enjoying each other's company during the events.

The next Days of the Dead is in Louisville August 30-September 1. I will not be able to make it there, but I'll be there in spirit and I am sure the Days crew will give me good stories from the show. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone in Chicago
