I
Never Said I Wasn't Happy is a candid portrait of a rural Midwestern family by
a Midwest daughter. Before and after the death of her father, Sara Peak Convery
(filmmaker/artist) obsessively examines her parents' difficult relationship
through the lens of vibrant painting, photography, 16mm film and
revealing interviews. Father, mother and daughter are engaged in a dance of
control. The film observes how her mother Janis finally claims her own life
after the death of her husband.
The soundtrack features the music of several Chicago musicians: jazz pianist
Bob Long, Ken Haebich and Jim Gailloreto's improvisational group The Ken and
Jim Show, and Miki Greenberg performing solo on piano, creating a seamless
audio environment for the story along with folk musicians Dana Robinson, Garnet
Rogers and Greg Brown. $10 at the door. For more information call Joan Marks at 224/233-2366.
