Family Fun On Tap for Skokie 4th of July Parade

Marching bands and drum corps will highlight the parade in Skokie this year.

Skokie, IL - The marching bands are back and numerous entertainment groups will highlight the Skokie Fourth of July parade.

“We are pretty excited about new additions to the parade for kids, “ said Parade Chairman Alan Gerstner.

Several champion marching bands such as Genesis Drum and Bugle, Legends Drum and Bugle, and the Chicago Pipe Band will be in the parade this year compared to last year.

Also, popular Chicago television anchors Karen Jordan and Christian Farr will serve as the grand marshals.

“Our focus this year was on bands and unique entertainment, said Bob Quane, Parade Vice Chairman. For the first time ever, the parade will be lead by the United States Navy Band thanks to the efforts of Arnie Oskin, parade board member.

Musical groups such as the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band, Jutta & the Hi-Dukes, and the Sinful Saint’s Dixieland Band will travel the parade route adding to the celebration for the day. Winners of the Skokie Idol competition will also perform.

Children will enjoy parade favorites such Tommy Hawk, Chicago Blackhawks mascot, AOK Clowns, Funny Little People, Uncle Sam stilt walker, Jesse White Tumblers, Medinah Flying Carpets, and Sam and the Giant Wheel.

Local groups and organizations such as the Filipino American Community, Skokie Cub Scout Pack 85, Skokie Park District, Assyrian American Civic Club, and the Skokie Indians Little League will participate in the parade.

The parade will step off from Oakton Community College at noon and travel through downtown. The 3D fireworks show will start at dusk at Niles West High School. More information and the parade program can be found at www.skokie4th.org.
