Howard S. Ellegant, age 81. Beloved husband of Carol Ellegant nee Mendelson. Loving father of David Ellegant and Debra Chesnin (Alex Tartakovsky). Proud grandfather of Leah Evelyn Tartakovsky. Devoted son of the late Sol and Eileen Ellegant. Service Monday 10AM at Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation, 303 Dodge Avenue, Evanston, IL 60202. Interment Westlawn. From 1962-1964, Howard was in the Peace Corps and served in Medellin, Colombia designing and building rural schools with community members. He spent 16 years with the Army Corps of Engineers in roles ranging from architect to Value Engineering Officer. He was a Society of American Value Engineers (SAVE) Fellow, past Chair of the SAVE Certification Board, former VP and President of the Metropolitan Chicago Chapter SAVE, and Distinguished Service Award.
