Gas Line Hit At Old Orchard

A natural gas line was reportedly struck on the southeast side of the of the Old Orchard Mall Tuesday, police said.

SKOKIE, IL — Police asked the public to exercise caution around the Old Orchard Shopping Center due to a potential gas leak. A natural gas line was reportedly struck at the southeast end of the mall around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Skokie police.

Police and firefighters were on the scene awaiting Nicor Gas to arrive to turn off the gas early Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the damage was caused by a construction crew working in the Old Orchard parking lot. Skokie police said there were injuries reported and no road closures are expected.

As of 4 p.m., Skokie police and Nicor employees were still on scene, police said.
