Happy Second Anniversary to Resistance Pro Wrestling

Next Saturday at Amundsen High School, I will be at Resistance Pro Wrestling’s Caress of Steel.  In addition to this looking to be a great wrestling event, it is also a two year anniversary celebration.

I am proud to say that I have been involved with R Pro from the beginning.  I am even prouder of the growth I have seen in R Pro over those two years.

In my recent interview with R Pro Creative Director Billy Corgan, he summed it up perfectly.  R Pro was not going in the wrong direction, but it wasn’t necessarily going in the right direction.  A refocusing on grooming their own talent and working with Chicago talent, allowed R Pro to rebuild from the bottom up.

Corgan’s honest answer was refreshing, especially from a wrestling promoter’s position.  It is that type of attitude that I see all throughout R Pro.  I never see the misdirection or facades I see in other companies (wrestling or not).

As much as R Pro has grown and improved over the two years, a major source of pride comes from outside of the wrestling ring.  R Pro is firmly entrenching itself in the Chicagoland community.

Last spring, I marched with R Pro in a St. Patrick’s parade on the northwest side of Chicago.  Last summer, I was on hand when R Pro participated in (former Chicago Bears) Greg Olsen’s Kicks For a Cure, charity kickball event.  I thought these were cool events, but I was blown away by the next venture.

A few months ago, R Pro launched POP (Positive Outreach Program).  Since then, several members of the R Pro family (including co-owners Gabe and Jacques Baron and Corgan, too) have visited three different schools in the Chicago area.  Their clear message is they want to affect these students in a positive way.

I have been at all three events and I can tell you their message is heard and felt by these students.  I can also tell you that every one from R Pro has been profoundly affected, too.  The reaction of the students to R Pro POP has left a deep impression on each of us.

Saturday, I will be sitting in my usual seat in the front row.  Around me will be about a dozen of my long-time friends.  Some will be seeing R Pro for the first time, but I can almost guarantee not the last time.

R Pro is special.  R Pro is so special I feel compelled to spread the word.  It is so special I want all of my family and friends to see it.  It is so special I try to plan my schedule around it.  It is so special that I got completely and unexpectedly drawn in   It’s just that special and it is just beginning.
