After a 911 call about a student with a gun, Niles West was placed under lockdown as a precautionary measure Monday afternoon.

SKOKIE, IL — Niles West High School was placed under lockdown Monday morning as a precautionary measure after police received a 911 call from a parent stating that a student had brought a gun to school. Skokie police responded and locked down during an investigation. Police located and recovered a BB gun and detained two juveniles in connection with the incident.
“We have just received clearance from the Skokie Police Department to resume our regular school day,” said Niles West Principal Jason Ness. “We thank the police for working with us to quickly investigate the potential threat and to resolve the matter quickly. The safety and security of our students is always our top priority, and I am proud of the response of our students, staff and administration.”
Police described the situation as "contained" around 2:30 p.m. and said there was no injuries as a result of the incident. Shortly thereafter, posts from Niles West students on social media said the lockdown situation had been cleared.
