Man Put His Cousin in Cage and Threw Hot Wax on Him: Sheriff

A 28-year-old from Grand Rapids faces charges in relation to an alleged incident in Des Plaines last year.

A Michigan man was returned to Cook County this week to face accusations he put his cousin in a dog cage before throwing hot wax on him and burning him with a cigarette lighter.

William Bailey, 28, of Grand Rapids, Mich. was taken to the Skokie Courthouse on Friday on charges of aggravated battery, unlawful restraint and robbery. He was previously held in Michigan until other cases in that state had been resolved.

According to Cook County Sheriff’s Police, detectives responded to an area hospital in September of 2014, where they learned a 47-year-old victim had been battered by Bailey, his cousin, who had been staying at the victim’s apartment in unincorporated Des Plaines.

“Bailey punched the victim and confined him to a dog cage,” according to a Cook County Sheriff’s Office news release. “He threw hot wax on the victim, and the victim was burned with (a) cigarette lighter.”

The victim escaped to the home of a neighbor, and Bailey fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, which was found two weeks later in Berrien County, Mich.
