New Açai Spot Hummingbird Hideaway Opens Next Week In Skokie

Woman-owned fast-casual restaurant Hummingbird Hideaway will open June 2 at 5118 Oakton St. in Downtown Skokie.

SKOKIE, IL — Hummingbird Hideaway, a new açai bowl place, is set to open just in time for summer in Downtown Skokie.

Hummingbird Hideaway will open June 2 at 5118 Oakton Street. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 12 p.m. that day.

The business was founded by Amy Feldman, who is a third-generation Skokie resident as well as a Food Marketing Hall of Fame honoree. Feldman previously worked with POM Wonderful, Lifeway Foods and Enjoy Life Foods before launching her own concept in the community where she grew up.

The restaurant's menu will include functional smoothies and bowls named for local landmarks and moments in Skokie. The business said its offerings are anchored by organic açaí sourced from Brazil.

“I’ve spent over 25 years helping build brands that stand for something. Hummingbird is the first one I’m launching as my own — and it’s rooted in the place that made me. Every ingredient, every name on the menu, every nonprofit we partner with reflects this community. I want people to walk in and feel that: a great space to pause, reset, and fuel up before they continue with their journey,” Feldman said.

The business also plans a monthly menu program centered on customer submissions. Business owners said customers will be able to submit original smoothie or bowl ideas, including a recipe, a name and a nonprofit partner of their choosing. The winning item will be selected through in-store voting, and 100 percent of proceeds from that monthly featured item will go to the winning creator's chosen nonprofit, the business said.

The program will launch with a signature creation from Chef Sven Lindroth and his selected nonprofit partner, officials announced.
