New Bike Lanes Coming To Skokie's Church Street
Skokie's goal is to improve safety on the road for both bicyclists and cars.
SKOKIE, IL — Construction to add dedicated bike lanes along Church Street in Skokie is set to begin Wednesday along the stretch from Linder Avenue to McCormick Boulevard.
The work is aimed at improving safety for everyone on the road. The project is expected to continue through July 20.
Crews are scheduled to work on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers and nearby residents can expect a changing work area during those hours as the project moves forward.

The work will also include sidewalk and curb replacement, signage installation, pavement markings and traffic signal modifications. Those upgrades are part of the effort to add dedicated bike lanes along the corridor.
Traffic impacts are expected during construction. Temporary lane closures and shifting traffic patterns are planned in the work zone, though two-way traffic will be maintained. On-street parking also may be limited in active work areas, with advance notice posted before those restrictions take effect.

The work is scheduled to last into mid-July, which means motorists, cyclists and pedestrians who use Church Street should plan for ongoing construction conditions this spring and summer.
